Love...

Okay, call me crazy or silly or whatever you want, but I am always looking for creative ways or different ways to say I love you to my husband. Especially when he is way from me. It seems I can never come up with the right words, or good enough words to express the way I feel. So.... I've been scouring my favorite online bookstore today for just the right "words". I've found a few and put them in my shopping cart but haven't checked out yet.

My DH thinks I'm crazy. He says he knows I love him and I say it fine. He's not the most romantic although he does try for me. I, on the other hand, am a hopeless romantic. I love the books, the movies. I love romantic pictures and of course romantic words. I have a poets heart but not the talent.

Just about every night, I lay in bed after I put the kids to bed and try to write a love letter to DH but they usually just say, "I love you so much." It sounds like a first grader! Surely I could come up with better words to say what I feel. Hey, maybe I could put a thesaurus by the bed. I doubt it would help but... you never know.

Anyway, with Christmas coming I want something super special to send him. It's so hard. I mean what do you send a soldier in the desert for Christmas? I feel like I need to express my love even more with him gone. I can't just give him a hug or kiss or any of that so ... He always says a movie is the best thing to send over there or money {;o)} but those don't exactly say "I love you!" Oh well. He thinks I'm nuts anyway (in a good way of course) so it probably won't matter too much. I guess it's the thought that counts anyway.

I guess this is kind of personal to be posting on the internet but oh well. It's what I'm thinking about today.

  1. I have the same problem with writing how I feel. When my husband was away, everytime I was at a store with a card section, I picked out 2 or 3 cards that said what I wanted to say to him. I don't know how many I accumulated but I sent a new card once a week. He really loved them.

  2. I did that a lot last time too. It really helps, especially towards the end when you seem to be all "written" out. I started buying cards for him before he left (I'm so bad!) but they have run out and so now I'm just trying to learn to express myself better on my own at least for a while anyway. Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement. I really appreciate it. ;o)

  3. These may not be helpful for your purpose but they deserve to be enjoyed just the same. Here are two poems from America's first great literary woman, Anne Bradstreet (1612-1672).

    Some things never change:
A Letter to Her Husband, Absent Upon Public Employment

To My Dear and Loving Husband

I read these for the first time my freshman year of college and I remember thinking that I hope that I feel that way about the man that I marry. And, yeah I do.

  7. One thing that worked well for my buddy and his wife-they bought a nicely bound journal type book and took turns writing in it, mailing it back and forth to each other. They had a nice collection of thoughts at the end of a year. Of course you have mail delays/lost mail but it worked well for them.
